Meal tickets are $12 per plate and children 10-and-under are free
Find that lederhosen or dust off the dirndl and kick off the beginning of Fall with the sights, sounds and aromas of authentic German culture.
That is the word from Heavenly Host Lutheran Church (HH) as Fall is closing in, and the church prepares its annual Oktoberfest fundraising event in Saturday, Sept. 28. The event will feature “an authentic German meal” served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m at 777 South Willow Avenue in Cookeville
Meal tickets are $12 per plate and children 10-and-under are free. College students can show their ID for a $6 plate, and meal tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event.
“All proceeds will be donated to the Cookeville Pregnancy Center, Tennessee Tech University Food Pantry and the Heavenly Host Early Childhood Center for a special fund given to families in need,” according to a release by HH.
HH says German Bavarian favorites will return to the menu including:
- Bratwursts
- homemade potato salad
- sauerkraut
- strudel
“Hot dogs are also available along with Coca-Cola products and beer from Calfkiller Brewery Company. Carry out containers will be available for to-go orders,” according to a release. “While enjoying a traditional German meal, the sounds of German polkas, waltzes and classic songs will fill the air. Oktoberfest will also provide entertaining activities such as dancing, karaoke, a silent auction, bake sale, a bounce house for the kids and many outdoor games.”
The event is a fan favorite.
“Friends and families gather to enjoy an afternoon of German culture, great food, and fun right here in Cookeville,” said Donnie Baumgart, Oktoberfest attendee. “It’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon while supporting our church ministry.”
Oktoberfest is sponsored in part by Calfkiller Brewery Company and Coca-Cola. For more information, call the church office at 931.526.3423 or visit www.heavenlyhostlcms.org.
