Local entrepreneur Jon Powers will open restaurant at the location once filled by The Hippies Daughter
Domino’s Pizza will open in Monterey, according to reports. The Pizza giant will open at the Northwest corner of Commercial Avenue and Chestnut Street in the city. The location once housed The Hippies Daughter (HD), a tea shop and deli that opened there in Feb. 2023.
“We knew that we wanted to be part of something good and wanted something good to offer the community as a whole,” said HD on Facebook. “We had zero plans of serving food. We just wanted tea and a safe place for anyone who entered, and boy has it turned out to be so much more!! We have made so many wonderful friends who have in turn become our family!”
Following HD’s exit from the location, local entrepreneur Jon Powers set his sights on the building.
““Domino’s prides itself in building excellence around its team members and franchisees,” according to the company. “Much of Domino’s success has come from is franchise business model, which is an internally based franchise system.”
Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter says he is excited about growth in Monterey.
“Thank you, Jon, for joining the Monterey business community,” said Porter.
The change will bring more than just jobs, according to Monterey Mayor Alex Garcia.
“I am very excited to announce that Domino’s Pizza will soon be opening in Monterey at the Northwest corner of Commercial Avenue and Chestnut Street,” said Garcia. “Monterey residents can look forward to new jobs, tasty pizza and another business that is dedicated to being a good neighbor by supporting our schools and community initiatives. Welcome to the neighborhood, Domino’s!”
The new location comes on the heels of a positive third quarter financial result for the company. The report showed the pizza behemoth with sales growth at 5.1% and same store sales growth of 3%. Internationally, Domino’s same store sales growth was 0.8% last quarter with a global net store growth of 72, according to the report. Income from operations also increased 5% despite a $1.4 million negative impact of foreign currency exchange rates on international royalty revenues.
Income from operations increased 5.7%, overall.
“Our third quarter results once again demonstrated that our Hungry for MORE strategy is resonating, despite a pressured global marketplace,” said Russell Weiner, Domino’s CEO. “In our international business, we are on track for our 31st consecutive year of same store sales growth, demonstrating our sustained long-term track record of success. In the U.S., we drove our 4th straight quarter of profitable order count growth, highlighting that our strategies are driving positive outcomes. The Hungry for MORE pillar of Renowned Value will be the primary focus for our business in near-term as we look to continue to create our own tailwinds around the world. Renowned Value is a competitive advantage for Domino’s and one where we are industry leaders. With the slate of initiatives we have in place, I am confident that we will continue to win and grow our market share across the globe for years to come.”
