Crossville to hold city council candidates forum

CUMBERLAND COUNTY – A political forum scheduled for this week will feature seven of the eight candidates running for Crossville City Council this November.

The Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the event, issued an announcement Monday. Jerry T. “J.J.” Brownstead, Charles Cooper Jr., J.H. Graham III, Robert E. Harrison, Terri L. Manning, Jeanette W. Parsons, Scot Shanks and David E. Warner are all vying for two seats on the Crossville city council, although the media advisory did not specify which were participating.

The candidate forum will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cumberland County Playhouse. It is free and open to the public.

The notice did outline the forum’s format: each candidate participating will be given a two-minute introduction and permitted a two-minute closing statement. Additionally, eight questions were selected by the chamber’s public policy council and immediately provided to each candidate.

Event moderator is John Fionte, and timekeeper, Nicole Hackmann, both from the Playhouse.

The forum, chamber officials said, will not lend itself to a “candidate debate,” but more of an opportunity for the candidates to present their key thoughts on how to make the community a better place.

The forum will be videotaped and available on the Crossville News First website. The city election is Nov. 8.
