Investigation stemmed from a concerned citizen

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, a Cookeville High School student that is currently suspended for being in possession of a THC vaping device (unrelated to this event) has been arrested after a search revealed components “capable of producing an explosive device that could cause harm to the public.”

It all started Monday, Jan. 6 when a “concerned citizen” contacted the PCSO. After receiving the information, officers responded and investigated the complaint.

“Upon further investigation of the juvenile’s home, the same juvenile was found to be in possession of components that PCSO then requested the assistance of the THP Special Operations Unit to aid with the handling of the explosive components,” according to the PCSO.

The juvenile has been charged with possessing explosive components and given a court date. The investigation is still ongoing
