Goal is to to make the technology accessible to any-size company

Collaborative robots are revolutionizing the manufacturing world, and a robotics startup based right here in Cookeville is leading the charge. Pretty cool, huh?

First question: What are collaborative Robots (cobots)? According to Cookeville based SwitchWeld (SW), a robotics startup in the city, cobots “make welding more efficient, safer and accessible — even for small and mid-sized shops.”

SW is solving problems and increasing productivity.

“Unlike current welding robots, the SwitchWeld welding cobot has built in safety features, making working directly with robots safer than ever before. The SwitchWeld Reach, their newest technology, has helped solve labor shortages and increase productivity for welders across the region. With over 7 degrees of freedom, this cobot welder is changing the way modern manufacturers approach welding automation,” according to a release by the company.

The goal is to to make the technology accessible to any-size company.

“We focused on making Switchweld intuitive and useful to the welder, so that automation is easily accessible to any-size company, not just big corporations,” said Dr. Stephen Canfield, Founder and Chief Technology Officer at SwitchWeld. “Being recognized by the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce is an incredible honor, and we hope Tennesseans will vote to help us make it to the Top 8 and bring safer welding automation all across the nation!”

The “Coolest Things Made in Tennessee” contest celebrates the creativity and impact of local manufacturers. And the public can vote for their favorite product once per day from Aug. 5 through Aug. 12 at https://coolestthingmadeintn.com/vote/.
