Charms, the manufacturer of Blow Pops, was established in 1912
The TNECD joined local leaders and partners in breaking ground on the 200,000-square-foot expansion in Covington.
The expansion was first announced in February.
“Since opening in 1971, the Covington facility has been a cornerstone of Tennessee’s manufacturing community, producing favorites like Blow Pops, Tootsie Pops Minis and Cotton Candy,” according to a release by the TNECD.
As part of the expansion, Charms will invest $97.7 million and create 62 new jobs to expand its manufacturing plant and distribution center. Charms, the manufacturer of Blow Pops, was established in 1912 and set up manufacturing in Covington in 1973. In 1988, the company was acquired by Tootsie Roll.
Once the project is complete, Charms will employ nearly 500 people in Tipton County.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to grow our presence in the town of Covington. We are extremely proud to be a part of this community and are looking forward to future growth together. This plant addition will enable us to expand our manufacturing operations and help us to better serve our customers,” according to Charms plant manager HT Davis.
