Ackerman named Assistant Director of UCDD Planning and Community Development

UPPER CUMBERLAND — The Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD) has named Marcie Ackerman as the Assistant Director of the organization’s Planning and Community Development department.

Ackerman, employed with UCDD since October 2018, started as a project manager for the UCDD Housing team before transitioning to the Planning and Community Development department in late 2019.

“When I felt like I was getting my feet under me, COVID-19 hit and we were working from home,” Ackerman said. “That made me dig deep and do my own research when I needed an answer; instead of just knocking on someone’s door. I feel like that has helped me with remembering

things and hopefully will make it easier for me to help others in our department.”

Ackerman replaces outgoing Assistant Director Virginia Alexander, who held that position for the last four-and-a-half years.

“I know I have some very big shoes to fill,” Ackerman said of Alexander’s departure. “Virginia has done such an amazing job, and I just hope I can be half of the Assistant Director she was.”

Ackerman says her first steps have included reaching out to those over the larger grants UCDD administers and learning more about the bits and pieces that will help her aid the Planning and Community Development team best.

She will take on a larger role in the planning and long-term vision of the department as well as assisting with the management of the day-to-day operations.

“The department is very excited for Marcie to begin her new role,” said Tommy Lee, UCDD Deputy Director. “The department would also like to thank Virginia Alexander who has served as an exemplary assistant director for the last four-and-a-half years.”

Ackerman and her husband, Chad, have two cats. Outside of work Ackerman enjoys a variety of hobbies.

“I love to travel and cook so odds are you might find me in the kitchen or outside grilling,” she said. She also enjoys watching and playing sports.
