COOKEVILLE – Work on the Fifth Interchange – Exit 283 – construction project continues. The westbound ramps of the project officially opened to traffic on Nov. 22, just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

According to Jennifer Flynn, Tennessee Department of Transportation Community Relations Officer, the contractor will have lane closures next week (Dec. 4-7) to remove overhang jacks, patch the bridge and complete guardrail installation on Interstate 40.

The following week, weather permitting, the subcontractor is scheduled to begin texture coating the bridge.

The eastbound ramps of the interchange opened in late September.

TDOT is constructing the interchange and widening the state industrial access road only. The local connector roads are being overseen by the city of Cookeville.

The entire project has an estimated completion date of April 2018.
