UPPER CUMBERLAND – More than 700 people have already applied to Volunteer State Community College to take advantage of the new Tennessee Reconnect program. It provides community college education tuition-free for adult students who don’t have a degree. The college is hosting a Get Ready to Reconnect event to help students who are still considering TN Reconnect.

The all-day event, at all Vol State campuses, including Livingston and the Cookeville Higher Education Campus (CHEC), on Tuesday Apr. 10 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Attendees can check in at the lobbies of those locations. Vol State at Livingston is located at 113 Windle Community Rd. CHEC is located at 1000 Neal St. in Cookeville.

There are three primary steps to take part in TN Reconnect at Vol State: apply to the college; fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); and apply for TN Reconnect. There are eligibility requirements for TN Reconnect, with the most important being that a student cannot already have an associate or bachelor’s degree.

The other requirements are listed on the Vol State website. All of those steps can be completed now by visiting the Vol State website. Interested adults will be able to do all of the above at the information sessions, and also take part in placement testing and academic advising.

Vol State has academic support programs to get students up to speed in math and English skills. Faculty and staff members are also experienced in working with adult students. The college has a number of delivery methods for classes, including day, evening, Saturday, and online classes. That provides great flexibility for working students.
