NASHVILLE –A new statewide class of leaders has a Tennessee Tech representative.

Lori Mann Bruce, the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Tennessee Tech, is one of 15 individuals selected to be in the inaugural class of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission’s Tennessee Innovation and Leadership Fellows program. The cohort-based professional development program is designed to develop the next generation of enterprise leaders in higher education.

“I feel very honored,” said Bruce. “One of the best parts will be meeting the other 14 people from around the state.”

Beginning in October, the newly-selected fellows will convene on campuses across the state to learn from experts and build networks. The program will facilitate individual development goals through professional assessments, one-on-one executive coaching, mentoring networks and job shadowing experiences.

“Being fairly new to higher education in Tennessee, I’m excited about meeting other leaders from other universities,” said Bruce, who came to Tech in April 2018 from Mississippi State. “Each of the activities are at different campuses, so I will be exposed to other campuses and build a network of colleagues that I’m really looking forward to.”

Throughout the program, fellows will broaden their understanding of institutional practices and the higher education landscape in order to prepare them for greater responsibility at the enterprise level.

“It’s a combination of mentoring and coaching,” said Bruce. “I want to take time to think critically about the future of higher education. I’m really looking forward to being with other leaders and thinking critically about the future so that I can plan pro-actively and help Tennessee Tech lead into the future.”
