TDOT Traffic Advisories Sept. 6 – 11

UPPER CUMBERLAND – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has significant highway construction going on throughout the Upper Cumberland region that will drastically impact travelers. 

The following are the traffic advisories for interstate construction throughout the Upper Cumberland for Sept. 6 – 11, listed by county and an estimated completion date.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on I-40 in both directions from MM 313 to MM 338: TDOT crews will be performing patching operations in both directions, beginning with closing the left lane in each direction. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone. The work will be performed under nightly lane closures between 8 PM and 6 AM. The project is scheduled to begin 09/08/19 and be completed by 09/20/19.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 Construction of a truck climbing lane EB near MM 339, including grading, drainage, and paving: Construction signs, guardrail (westbound), and portable barrier rail (eastbound) have been installed. The contractor has begun grade work in the median behind portable barrier rail. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, use caution, and be aware of construction personnel in the work zone and equipment that will entering/exiting the roadway. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 near MM 296 Bridge repair on Rocky Point Road over I-40: Rocky Point Road bridge at LM 9.31 over I-40 is closed due to bridge repairs and is scheduled to re-open November 2019. A detour is in place to guide motorists around the bridge closure. No lane closures are anticipated on I-40 during this period. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage when traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 WB Resurfacing and bridge repair from Falling Water River to the ramp from US-70N (SR-24): The contractor will begin removing construction signs. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

SMITH COUNTY The repair of the I-40 WB bridge over Caney Fork River at M.M. 263.1: Nightly starting Sunday, Sept. 8, 7PM-5AM: I-40 westbound will be down to one lane for milling and paving operations at MM 263. One westbound lane will remain open.

The following are the traffic advisories for state roads across the Upper Cumberland for Sept. 6 – 11, listed by county with the road, extent of work and an estimated completion date.

CLAY AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-111 resurfacing in Overton County from the Putnam County line to north of SR-293 and on SR-52 from west of Poor House Road in Clay County to west of Robbins Lane in Overton County: The contractor is scheduled to begin paving operations on 09/04/19. During this work, the contractor will have lane closures and will use flaggers to facilitate traffic flow through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Emergency slope stabilization near LM 26.6: Construction signs, portable barrier rail, and temporary traffic signals have been installed. SR-1 (US-70) will be reduced to one lane between Godsey Road and Renegade Mountain Parkway while the slope stabilization is in process. Motorists should exercise caution as they travel through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Resurfacing from east of Pomona Road to west of SR-24 (US-70N) and on SR-28 (US-127) from south of Sawmill Road to north of SR-392 and on SR-392 from north of Old Mail Road to SR-28 (US-127): Construction signs have been installed. Paving is complete on SR-1 (US-70S) and SR-392 (Miller Avenue). Remaining work includes the installation of permanent pavement markings, rumble stripes, and shoulder stone. The contractor will be paving on SR-28 (US-127). New traffic pattern: The center turn lane has been extended from Brookhaven subdivision south to Three Mile Creek. Flaggers will be used for temporary lane closures. Motorists should expect delays during the ongoing paving activities and should be alert for construction personnel/equipment working on the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) Grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard: As grade work progresses, motorists should be alert for shifts in traffic patterns to allow for construction activities. The posted speed limit has been reduced from 45 MPH to 35 MPH within the work zone. Temporary lane closures may be needed to support ongoing work. Lane and/or road closures may be needed within Fairfield Glade to allow installation of storm drain and relocation of utilities. Motorists should reduce speeds on Peavine Road and be alert for construction personnel/equipment entering and exiting the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is November 2020.

DEKALB COUNTY SR-146 Resurfacing from the Cannon County line to north of Game Ridge Road: The contractor will be resurfacing on DeKalb SR-146 during this period. Motorists should expect temporary lane closures and flagging operations. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

DEKALB AND WARREN COUNTY SR-56 Construction of bridges and paving from south of Warren-Dekalb County line to East Bryant St: During construction, motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel in the roadway. The contractor has begun installing temporary construction signs and tree clearing. Estimated project completion date is May 2022.

FENTRESS COUNTY Rotten Fork Road over Rotten Fork of the Wolf River Bridge Replacement: The contractor is currently working on new bridge at Rotten Fork Road at LM 0.135. Rotten Fork Road remains open to traffic while the new bridge is being constructed. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction equipment adjacent to roadway. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY SR-28 (US-127) Resurfacing from south of Davis Road to north of SR-52 and from north of Lacy Road to north of Mustang Lane: The contractor has completed paving operations and is scheduled to be on site intermittently to perform work on punch list items. Motorists are encouraged to use caution through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY Vines Ridge Road over Big Laurel Creek Bridge Replacement:   Vines Ridge Road remains closed at LM 1.06 and will remain closed until new bridge is constructed and in place. Motorists should seek an alternate route around Vines Ridge Road near the location of construction. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

FENTRESS AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-85 Emergency slide repairs at various locations: The roadway is closed from LM 18.4 to LM 22.4 in Overton county. SR-85 is also closed in Fentress County between LM 5.75 and 8.00. The contractor is continuing work on this contract in the two areas listed where the roadway is closed. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and seek alternate routes. Estimated project completion date is January 2020.

JACKSON COUNTY TDOT Bridge Maintenance on SR-151 (HUDSON CREEK HWY.) in both directions from LM 3.5 to LM 3.5: TDOT Bridge Maintenance will be repairing the bridge over Hudson Creek on Hudson Creek Hwy. (SR-151 at LM 3.5). This work will take place on 09/04/19 to 09/05/19 from 9 AM to 4 PM. Traffic control will be in place at this time.

JACKSON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-56 (JENNINGS CREEK HWY.) in both directions from LM 23.57 to LM 24.38: Mobile lane closures for utility work will occur on Jennings Creek Hwy between Hwy 151 and Ward Fork Road. Signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists should use caution. Work will take place from 08/19/19 through 09/13/19 between 9AM and 3PM.

JACKSON COUNTY SR-53 Resurfacing from the Smith County line (LM 0) to north of New Salem Road (LM 9.02), including repair of the bridge over Flynn’s Creek (LM 7.84): The contractor is scheduled to be on site intermittently performing work on punch list items. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

JACKSON AND PUTNAM COUNTY SR-53 Resurfacing in Jackson County from north of SR-135 to the Clay County line and on SR-56 from north of US-70N (SR-24) in Putnam County to north of Old Creek Road in Jackson County: The contractor has completed paving operations and is scheduled to be on site intermittently performing work on punch list items. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

MACON COUNTY, Resurfacing on SR 10 from south of Ellington Drive to KY state line, Daily, 6AM-6PM: There will be temporary lane closures on SR 10 in both directions for paving activities. One lane will remain open.

MACON COUNTY, Safety Improvements on SR 52 from SR 141 to Old Highway 52, Daily, 6AM-6PM: There will be alternating lanes closures on SR 52 in both directions for paving and pavement marking activities. One lane will remain open.

OVERTON COUNTY SR-111 Miscellaneous safety improvements at the intersections of SR-293: The contractor currently has SR-111 from the LM 2.25 to the 3.75 reduced to one lane in each direction. This lane closure will remain in place until contract completion. In addition to the lane closure, the speed limit through the work zone has been reduced to 55 MPH to increase safety of the motoring public and the contractor’s personnel. SR-293 is affected at the intersection of SR-111 with the median crossings being closed for the duration of the project. Motorists are encouraged to obey the 55 MPH speed limit and watch for construction operations adjacent to the roadway. During this report period, the contractor will be pacing traffic for placement of barrier rails. Estimated project completion date is October 2019.

OVERTON COUNTY SR-294 Bridge repair over Big Eagle Creek: The contractor will install a temporary traffic signal system and will reduce the bridge to one lane to allow the work to be performed. A lane closure will be in effect through 06/15/20. Motorists are encouraged to use caution through the work zone and should be prepared to stop at the signal. RESTRICTIONS: No loads wider than 10 feet. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-24 (NASHVILLE HWY.) in both directions from LM 0 to LM 10.15: Utility aerial work will take place along US-70N from the Putnam County line to 1st Ave North. Signage, flaggers, and trucks with warning lights will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution in this area. Work will occur 08/08/19 through 09/05/19 between 9 AM and 3 PM.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-24 (NASHVILLE HWY.) in both directions from LM 8.64 to LM 10.03: Mobile lane closures for utility work will occur on Nashville Hwy between Maddux Ridge Road and 1st Avenue North. Signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution in this area. Work will take place from 09/03/19 through 09/10/19 between 8 AM and 3 PM.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-84 (LIVINGSTON HWY.) in both directions from LM 10.03 to LM 13.37: Mobile lane closures for utility work will occur on Livingston Hwy between Woodcliff Road and Stamp Shady Grove Road. Trucks with warning lights, signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution in this area. Work will take place from 08/15/19 through 10/14/19 between 8 AM and 3 PM.

PUTNAM COUNTY SR-136 Resurfacing from US-70N (SR-24) to north of Whiteaker Springs Road:   Work will be performed on existing sidewalks and concrete curb ramps. This will result in lane closures each night on SR-136 between the hours of 7 PM and 6 AM. Motorists should use caution and be prepared for slowed traffic when traveling through the workzone. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

SMITH COUNTY, Resurfacing S.R. 96 from the Putnam County Line to the Putnam County Line, Daily, 9AM-3:30PM: There will be temporary lane closures on SR 96 in both directions for paving activities. One lane will remain open.

 SMITH COUNTY, Resurfacing on SR 53 from SR 141/SR 264 to US 70N (SR 24),Daily, 9AM-3:30PM: There will be temporary lane closures on SR 53 in both directions for paving activities. One lane will remain open.

VANBUREN COUNTY SR-284 Resurfacing from Park Road to SR-30: During construction, the road will be reduced to one lane, flaggers and a pilot car will be used to guide traffic flow through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel in the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

WARREN COUNTY SR-288 Construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Collins River, including grading, drainage and paving: The Bridge is currently reduced to one 10.5-foot lane to allow the contractor to construct the new bridge. While the bridge is down to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 10.5-foot max width. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

WARREN COUNTY SR-8 over Collins River Bridge Repair: Traffic signals have been removed; the bridge is open to traffic. While the contractor performs final clean up, temporary flaggers may be present for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

WHITE COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Repair of the bridge over the Calfkiller River in Sparta: The Calfkiller Bridge in Sparta will be transitioning to the second of three phases of lane closures. These phases will affect between Wilson Street and Church Street. The first phase will restrict the west bound traffic to one lane, while retaining the left turn lane and two lanes of traffic in the east bound direction. The second phase will reduce both eastbound and westbound to one lane in each direction; work will occur in the middle of the bridge. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

WHITE COUNTY SR-1 (US-70S) Resurfacing from the Van Buren County line to SR-111: The contractor will be resurfacing throughout the project during daytime hours, resulting in temporary lane closures on SR-1 and SR-111. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the workzone and pay attention to all construction signage. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
