TDOT Traffic Advisories Aug. 22-30

UPPER CUMBERLAND – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has significant highway construction going on throughout the Upper Cumberland region that will drastically impact travelers. 

The following are the traffic advisories for interstate construction throughout the Upper Cumberland for Aug. 15-21 listed by county and an estimated completion date.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on I-40 westbound from MM 317 to MM 315: TDOT maintenance forces will be paving the westbound fast lane of I-40 on Wednesday, August 28. Lane closure hours will be from 8 AM until 6 PM. Motorists should expect delays. Queue trucks and message boards will be in place to warn motorists of stopped traffic and possible delays.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 Construction of a truck climbing lane EB near MM 339, including grading, drainage, and paving: Construction signs, guardrail (westbound), and portable barrier rail (eastbound) have been installed. The contractor has begun grade work in the median behind portable barrier rail. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, use caution, and be aware of construction personnel in the work zone and equipment that will entering/exiting the roadway. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 near MM 296 Bridge repair on Rocky Point Road over I-40: Rocky Point Road bridge at LM 9.31 over I-40 is closed due to bridge repairs and will re-open November 2019. A detour is in place to guide motorists around the bridge closure. No lane closures are anticipated on I-40 during this period. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 WB Resurfacing and bridge repair from Falling Water River (MM 291) to the ramp from US-70N (SR-24) (MM 301): During this reporting period, the contractor will begin final striping and application of an epoxy coating to the surface of the bridge. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

SMITH COUNTY The repair of the I-40 WB bridge over Caney Fork River at M.M. 263.1: Nightly, 7PM-5AM, I-40 westbound will be down to one lane for milling and paving operations at MM 263. One westbound lane will remain open.

The following are the traffic advisories for state roads across the Upper Cumberland for Aug. 15-21 listed by county with the road, extent of work and an estimated completion date.

CANNON, MARION, AND WARREN COUNTY SR-96 Resurfacing from the Rutherford County line  to the Wilson County line, SR-150 (US-41) resurfacing from north of Sequatchie Mountain Road to the Grundy County line, SR-156 resurfacing from east of River Landing  to east of Nickajack Landing Road, and SR-287 resurfacing from SR-379 to south of Shelbyville Road: Resurfacing operations on SR-287 Warren County, SR-150 Marion County, and SR-96 Cannon County sections have been completed. The contractor is moving to SR-150 Marion county to prepare the road way for resurfacing that will begin next week. During construction, the road will be reduced to one lane, flaggers and a pilot car will be used to guide traffic flow through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel in the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

CLAY AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-111 resurfacing in Overton County from the Putnam County line to north of SR-293 and on SR-52 from west of Poor House Road in Clay County to west of Robbins Lane in Overton County: The contractor is scheduled to be on site installing construction signs beginning the week of 8/26/19. Motorists should use caution as crews will be on site working. No lane closures or traffic interruptions are expected while signs are installed. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Emergency slope stabilization near LM 26.6: Construction signs, portable barrier rail, and temporary traffic signals have been installed. SR-1 (US-70) will be reduced to one lane between Godsey Road and Renegade Mountain Parkway while the slope stabilization is in process. Motorists should exercise caution as they travel through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Resurfacing from east of Pomona Road to west of SR-24 (US-70N) and on SR-28 (US-127) from south of Sawmill Road to north of SR-392 and on SR-392 from north of Old Mail Road to SR-28 (US-127): Construction signs have been installed. Paving is complete on SR-1 (US-70S) and SR-392 (Miller Avenue). Remaining work includes the installation of permanent pavement markings, rumble stripes, and shoulder stone. The contractor will paving on SR-28 (US-127) beginning the week of August 26th. Flaggers will be used for temporary lane closures. Motorists can expect delays during the ongoing paving activities and should be alert for construction personnel/equipment working on the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) Grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard: As grade work progresses, motorists should be alert for shifts in traffic patterns to allow for construction activities. The posted speed limit has been reduced from 45 MPH to 35 MPH within the work zone. Temporary lane closures may be needed to support ongoing work. Lane and/or road closures may be needed within Fairfield Glade to allow installation of storm drain and relocation of utilities. Motorists should reduce speeds on Peavine Road and be alert for construction personnel/equipment entering and exiting the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is November 2020.

DEKALB COUNTY TDOT Contractor on SR-96 (DALE RIDGE RD.) in both directions from LM 12.8 to LM 13.2: The US Corp of Army Engineers will close one lane daily from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. to install a cross drain. Flaggers will be present during lane closure hours. Motorists should use caution and expect short delays. Project completion date is 08/29/19.

DEKALB COUNTY SR-146 Resurfacing from the Cannon County line  to north of Game Ridge Road: The contractor will be resurfacing the roadway on SR-146 during this period. Motorists should expect temporary lane closures with flagging operations. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY Rotten Fork Road over Rotten Fork of the Wolf River Bridge Replacement: The contractor is currently working on the new bridge at Rotten Fork Road at LM 0.135. Rotten Fork Road remains open to traffic while the new bridge is being constructed. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction equipment adjacent to roadway. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY SR-28 (US-127) Resurfacing from south of Davis Road to north of SR-52 and from north of Lacy Road to north of Mustang Lane: The contractor is paving one lane of SR-28 at a time and will have lane closures to support this work. Flaggers will be used to assist with traffic control. Motorists are encouraged to use caution through the work zone and watch for construction equipment in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY Vines Ridge Road over Big Laurel Creek Bridge Replacement: Vines Ridge Road remains closed at LM 1.06 and will remain closed until the new bridge is constructed and in place. Approximate date for the length of closure is 08/31/19. Motorists should seek alternate route around Vines Ridge Road near the location of construction. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

FENTRESS AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-85 Emergency slide repairs at various locations: The roadway is closed from LM 18.4 to LM 22.4 in Overton county. SR-85 is also closed in Fentress County between LM 5.75 and 8.00. The contractor is continuing work on this contract in the two areas listed where the roadway is closed. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and seek alternate routes. Estimated project completion date is January 2020.

JACKSON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-56 (JENNINGS CREEK HWY.) in both directions from LM 23.57 to LM 24.38: Mobile lane closures for utility work will occur on Jennings Creek Hwy between Hwy 151 and Ward Fork Road. Signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists should use caution. Work will begin 08/19/19 and is expected to continue through 09/13/19 between 9AM and 3PM.

JACKSON COUNTY SR-53 Resurfacing from the Smith County line to north of New Salem Road, including repair of the bridge over Flynn’s Creek: The contractor is scheduled to be on site intermittently performing punch list work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

JACKSON AND PUTNAM COUNTY SR-53 Resurfacing in Jackson County from north of SR-135 to the Clay County line and on SR-56 from north of US-70N (SR-24) in Putnam County to north of Old Creek Road in Jackson County: The contractor has completed paving operations and is scheduled to be on site intermittently performing punch list work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

MACON COUNTY, Resurfacing on SR 10 from south of Ellington Drive to KY state line Daily, 6AM-6PM: There will be temporary lane closures on SR 10 in both directions for paving activities. One lane will remain open.

MACON COUNTY, Safety Improvements on SR 52 from SR 141 to Old Highway 52 Daily, 6AM-6PM: There will be alternating lanes closures on SR 52 in both directions for paving and pavement marking activities. One lane will remain open.

OVERTON COUNTY SR-111 Miscellaneous safety improvements at the intersections of SR-293: The contractor currently has SR-111 from the LM 2.25 to the 3.75 reduced to one lane in each direction. This lane closure will remain in place until contract completion. In addition to the lane closure, the speed limit through the work zone has been reduced to 55 MPH for the safety of the motoring public and the contractor’s personnel. SR-293 is affected at the intersection of SR-111 with the median crossings being closed for the duration of the project. Motorists are encouraged to obey the 55 MPH speed limit and watch for construction operations adjacent to the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is October 2019.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-136 (N. WASHINGTON AVE.) in both directions: Utility work between 4th St. and 6th St will take place. Signage, barrels, and cones will be present during this work. Motorists should use caution and be aware of flaggers. Work should continue through 08/31/2019 between 9AM and 3PM.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-24 (NASHVILLE HWY.) in both directions: Utility aerial work will occur along Hwy 70N from the Putnam County line to 1st Ave North. Signage, flaggers, and trucks with warning lights will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution. Work will take place from 08/08/2019 through 09/05/2019 between 9AM to 3PM.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-84 (LIVINGSTON HWY.) in both directions from LM 10.03 to LM 13.37: Mobile lane closures for utility work will occur on Livingston Hwy between Woodcliff Road and Stamp Shady Grove Road. Trucks with warning lights, signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists should use caution. Work will take place from 08/15/19 through 10/14/19 between 8AM and 3PM.

PUTNAM COUNTY SR-136 Resurfacing from US-70N (SR-24) to north of Whiteaker Springs Road: Construction signs will be installed this week and work will be performed on existing sidewalks and concrete curb ramps. This will result in lane closures each night on SR-136 between the hours of 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Motorists should use caution and be prepared for slowed traffic when traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

SMITH COUNTY, Resurfacing on SR 53 from SR 141/SR 264 to US 70N (SR 24): Daily, 9AM – 3:30PM: There will be temporary lane closures on SR 53 in both directions for paving activities. One lane will remain open.

SMITH COUNTY, Resurfacing SR 96 from the Putnam County Line to the Putnam County Line:Daily, 9AM-3:30PM: There will be temporary lane closures on SR 96 in both directions for paving activities. One lane will remain open.

VANBUREN COUNTY SR-284 Resurfacing from Park Road to SR-30: During construction, the road will be reduced to one lane, flaggers and a pilot car will be used to guide traffic flow through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel in the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

WARREN COUNTY SR-288 Construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Collins River (LM 4.97), including grading, drainage and paving: The bridge is currently reduced to one 10.5-foot lane to allow the contractor to construct the new bridge. While the bridge is reduced to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 10.5-foot max width. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

WARREN COUNTY SR-8 over Collins River (LM 8.14) Bridge Repair: The bridge is currently reduced to one 11-ft. lane to allow the contractor to repair the existing bridge. While the bridge is reduced to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 11-ft max width. Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

WHITE COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Bridge repair over the Calfkiller River in Sparta: The Calfkiller bridge in Sparta is in the first of three phases of lane closures. These phases will affect between Wilson Street and Church Street. This first phase will restrict the west bound traffic to one lane, while retaining the left turn lane and two lanes of traffic in the east bound direction. This phase is expected to be completed by August 2019. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

WHITE COUNTY SR-1 (US-70S) Resurfacing from the Van Buren County line to SR-111: The contractor will be resurfacing throughout the project during daytime hours, resulting in temporary lane closures on SR-1 and SR-111. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the workzone and pay attention to all construction signage. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
