COOKEVILLE – Plans are taking shape for the 14th annual Upper Cumberland Senior Expo, which will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, Oct. 22, at Hyder-Burks Agricultural Pavilion in Cookeville. The Upper Cumberland Development District’s Area Agency on Aging and Disability (UCAAAD) is preparing for what they hope will be the biggest turnout yet.

Expo coordinators met with corporate sponsors on Monday to discuss planned activities and this year’s theme, “Get Into the Act,” which will focus on how older adults are actively taking charge of their health, impacting the lives of others and engaging in their communities.

“We would like to thank each corporate sponsor who is partnering with us,” Patty Ray, UCAAAD director, said. “Our sponsors make the Senior Expo a successful and valuable event for seniors in our region. For those interested in becoming a sponsor, we are still taking applications.”

Each year, the Senior Expo attracts hundreds of seniors and caregivers from the Upper Cumberland region, with optional transportation being coordinated at each county’s senior center. Participants will have opportunities to gather resources from vendors, vote in the booth decoration contest, receive door prizes, and participate in hands-on educational activities.

Who should come to this event? Typically, seniors are the main participants, but caregivers and other health care professionals are encouraged to attend as well.
