COOKEVILLE - Putnam County Habitat for Humanity broke ground on its 61st home on Thursday, May 17. The home will be built during one week, during a “Builder's Blitz” June 4-9, by homebuilders throughout the county. The Home Builder's Blitz project manager is Aaron Bernhardt of Bernhardt LLC. Dedication of the home is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9.
Habitat for Humanity's Home Builders Blitz began in 2002 with Tom Gipson, a professional homebuilder in Raleigh, N.C. Gipson supported Habitat's efforts to create affordable housing and eliminate poverty housing in his community. Habitat for Humanity International decided to promote it as a nationwide event in 2006.
Putnam County held its first accelerated build in 2008.
