CROSSVILLE – On Friday, July 13, the Cumberland County Playhouse (CCP) celebrates everything that’s wonderful about summer evenings with a special outdoor concert, “Artists of the Cumberlands.” This concert will give patrons the opportunity to savor both the Plateau’s summer breezes and homegrown music. Hosted by recording artist Melissa Ellis, this event – the first concert to be held in the CCP’s Outdoor Theater in several years – will focus on several rising musical stars from right here in the Cumberlands and East Tennessee.
A Crossville favorite, Ellis’ dream of being a performer began on the CCP stage in 1994 when she played Denise in “Smoke on the Mountain.” Since that time, she has become known for her signature “Southern Soul” style, which combines elements of jazz, blues, soul and pop along with more traditional country influences.
Ellis will be accompanied by her own band and will introduce a diverse lineup of local music including country rock from the Hour Way Band and bluegrass/roots music from the Plateau Ensemble (formerly the Dry Valley Gamblers), along with local and Playhouse favorites Tommy Hancock & Friends, Austin Price, James Crowley and more.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is sponsored by BB&T/Legge Insurance.
Tickets and information are also available for selected concerts at Crossville’s Palace Theater and other events at http://www.ccplayhouse.com or by calling (931) 484-5000.
