COOKEVILLE – This April, the Tennessee Tech Whitson-Hester School of Nursing is teaming up with the Cookeville Regional Charitable Foundation for a high-end barn dance called “Jeans and Bling.” The event will take place on Saturday, April 23, at the SaltBox Inn.

Jeans and Bling is an “elegant evening with a rustic twist,” officials said. The event will include BBQ and country foods, fine wine and craft beer, dancing, a silent auction including jewelry and gift baskets. Décor will be provided by French’s Shoes & Boots. The sponsor is Roland Digital Media.

Proceeds from Jeans and Bling will benefit two causes: scholarships for nursing students at Tech and aid for local hospice patients in-need.

“I am so thankful for this partnership between TTU and CRMC,” said John Bell, director of the Cookeville Regional Charitable Foundation. “Jeans and Bling is an elegant, yet comfortable evening with great music, food and dancing. I am grateful to our planning committee for putting together such a wonderful event. Jeans and Bling make it possible to compassionately respond to the charitable needs of hospice patients in the Upper Cumberland.”

Dr Huey-Ming Tzeng, dean of the TTU Whitson Hester School of Nursing, highlighted their successes in 2015. He said Tech’s registered nurse (RN) licensure passing rate is 98.25 percent, nearly 10 percentage points higher than the 88.98 percent rate for all Tennessee nursing schools.

“The student scholarship support raised at the Jeans and Bling event will assist our nursing students in realizing their dreams to be nurses and significantly ease their financial burden,” Tzeng said. “Our hardworking and talented nursing students and graduates have demonstrated their resilience and determination to be compassionate nurses to care for you and me as well as our family and community.”

Tickets for Jeans and Bling must be purchased in advance; the event is expected to sell out. For more information, call (931) 783-2003 or registering online at www.CookevilleRegionalCharity.org.

The event first debuted in 2012.
