Averitt certified as on-the-job training employer for military veterans

COOKEVILLE – Last year, Averitt Express committed to hiring 1,200 military veterans by 2020. To assist in that effort, Averitt is now offering an On-The-Job Training (OJT) (we can remove this abbreviation because it is not used below) program that is approved for veterans’ (added an apostrophe here) benefits.

Veterans who qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill and are hired by Averitt receive several benefits through the On-The-Job Training program. In addition to an Averitt paycheck and $5,000 tuition/transition assistance bonus, veterans can earn as much as $1,140 per month tax free for up to 12 months using available GI Bill funds.

“Hiring military veterans is a special focus for our team, because they are a perfect fit on many levels,” said Elise Leeson, Averitt’s vice president of human resources. “They have a strong sense of commitment and service, they know how to work as part of a team and they have discipline that helps them excel in whatever role they play. They’re exactly the kind of associates we want to have on our team.”

New associates participating in the program receive a combination of behind-the-wheel training and mentorship throughout the 12-month program.
